Indio Settles Discrimination Suit Over Mall: The city and its redevelopment agency agreed to provide replacement housing for a group of mostly black residents of the historic Noble’s Ranch section who were displaced by the planned expansion of the Indio Fashion Mall. The residents claimed in a lawsuit that they were the victims of discrimination. The settlement terms include the purchase of new homes in a nearby subdivision for eight families. Renters from the district will receive relocation payments. The economic downturn, meanwhile, has stalled the expansion project.
