Share

An organization has formed in South-Central to represent business interests and to lobby for resources directed to the area under the Clinton Administration’s urban agenda.

Board members of the Central City South Assn. of Commerce and Industry include USC, the 32nd Street Market and Dunbar Economic Development Corp., said board member Ezekial Mobley of the United Neighborhood Council. The association was incorporated the first week of September.

“We want to be well positioned to take advantage of any legislation that comes out of Washington, and, in addition, be prepared for any legislation coming out of Sacramento,” Mobley said.

Federal officials during the upcoming year are expected to select nine empowerment zones nationwide where businesses and social-service organizations would be able to receive a combination of tax breaks and grants.

To be eligible to join the South-Central association, businesses must be in the area bounded by the Santa Monica Freeway on the north, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on the south, Alameda Street on the east and Figueroa Street on the west.
