IBM May Face Antitrust Probe: The Justice Department is studying whether International Business Machines Corp. is violating a 1956 court settlement of an antitrust suit that barred IBM from subsidizing its independent data processing unit. A group of small data processing companies accused IBM of giving the unit marketing help and equipment discounts that made for unfair competitive advantage. In 1991, IBM formed International Systems Solutions Corp. in White Plains, N.Y., and moved its data processing there. An IBM spokesman denied any financial aid to the unit.
