Plans for Airline: An Orange County pasta maker said it has agreed to buy 53% of the stock of Air Vegas Inc. for $1.3 million. Nona Morelli’s II Inc. said it intends to build the privately owned carrier into a low-cost regional airline.
Air Vegas reported $3 million in sales for the first half of the year, compared to $4.4 million in all of 1992, the Irvine-based Italian food maker said. Air Vegas operates 19 aircraft and four buses and is engaged in marketing charter tours of the Grand Canyon and other tourist venues in the Southwest.
Nona Morelli’s said earlier that it is also seeking approval from authorities in Colorado and Mississippi to develop and operate gambling facilities in those states.
