Datametrics to Produce Custom Color Printers

Datametrics Corp., a Chatsworth maker of computer peripherals and communications products, said it signed an agreement valued at more than $11 million with Azon Corp. to produce custom high-speed color printers for Azon that generate license plates and street signs.

Datametrics said it expects to produce the first prototype in next year’s first quarter and deliver the printers to Azon over a three-year period. The agreement gives Azon, a private Johnson City, N. Y., company, the exclusive right to sell Datametrics’ printers to specific specialty markets. Azon makes architectural- and engineering-drawing materials and is also involved in computer-aided design and graphics products.

Under the agreement, Azon will also cover Datametrics’ research and development costs to develop the high-speed printers, its non-recurring engineering costs and other expenses.
