The amount of taxable sales throughout Ventura County decreased slightly during the first quarter of 1993 compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the state Board of Equalization Monday.

The total amount of taxable income in the county for the period ending in March was listed at $1.25 billion--a decrease of $11 million from the first quarter of 1992.

While Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Moorpark showed a growth in sales, businesses in Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Paula sold less in the first quarter of 1993 than in 1992.

Thousand Oaks’ businesses sold $266.7 million worth of goods and services during the months of January, February and March--compared to $251.3 million during the same period last year.

In Oxnard, the taxable income was listed at $240.8 million--a decrease of $22.8 million from the first quarter of 1992.

Statewide, the total taxable sales decreased from $62.49 billion to $62.44 billion.

“This confirms what we have already known,” said Richard Cupp, president and chief executive officer of the Ventura County Bank Corp. “The economy has been stagnant.”
