Flunking Pig Latin: UKFAUYA, you’re outta here.

An administrative law judge has ruled that a North Hollywood man must surrender that license plate because a “substantial segment of the population” might interpret it as pig Latin for an obscene phrase.

The motorist, Randy Braverman, had contended that UKFAUYA stood for United Kids For a United Young America, a small (now inactive) group he helped found. A DMV spokesman said, however, “We have been unable to find any record of this group.”

Yeah, but will he ever work in L.A. again? The New York Times mentioned the other day that “James Carville, the Clinton campaign architect . . . is eager to crown his winning streak with the reelection of Gov. Jim Florio of New Jersey. . . .”

What winning streak?

Following his little win in Washington, Carville was the architect of a fourth-place finish by Assemblyman Richard Katz in the L.A. mayoral race. Carville may have a lot of prestige in those East Coast minor leagues but he’s got a lot to learn before he’s ready to take on the big boys in L.A.

And we’re not talking about United Kids for a United Young America.

The 11th Commandment?Marcella Mellon of Covina snapped today’s photo at a church whose buildings are separated by a busy street. Your humble Only in L.A. reporter learned his lesson when he was ticketed for jaywalking on a Sunday at 8 a.m. in Westwood. And not a moving car in sight--except for the black and white.

List of the Day: Before christening their new film company as Mind & Matter Productions, Andrew Ettinger and Loretta Savery researched the names of other production companies in Greater L.A., and were struck by these:

--The Anemic Co.

--Day Job Films

--Dog & Pony Productions

--Engulf & Devour Films

--Pet Fly Productions

--Pirromount Pictures

--Rice & Beans Productions

--Roadkill Films

--Sitting Duck Productions

We’re surprised that Anemic Productions isn’t worried about being associated with several of the new shows on TV.

Is there a bartender in the house? Our mention of the Moscow Mule, a concoction of vodka, ginger beer and lime juice that originated in L.A., stirred warm memories in Lou Desser of South Pasadena. “A great drink--and it was served in a copper mug at the old Cock ‘n’ Bull on Sunset Boulevard,” he said. Desser added: “Thanks for the recipe, but can anyone tell me where I can buy ginger beer?”

Southern exposure: We felt something akin to pride when we read that Sunset magazine plans to profile L.A. first in its new series, “Great Western Cities.”

The magazine wants to research the subject so thoroughly that it has asked readers to answer such questions as: “What are your favorite outdoor places?” The last category of its survey, however, is: “Give us some examples of ‘Only in L.A.’ ”

Pardon us?
