Alpha Reports Modest Profit for 2nd Quarter

Alpha Microsystems, the Santa Ana computer company, reported a second-quarter profit of $89,000, or 3 cents a share, which included a tax benefit of $28,000.

That contrasts with a year-earlier loss of nearly $3 million, or 99 cents a share, which included a $2.7-million restructuring charge associated with the closure of the company’s Italian and French operations. Revenue for the quarter ended Aug. 29 declined 26%, to $9.6 million from $12.9 million.

For the first half, profit totaled $119,000, or 4 cents a share, on revenue of $19.1 million. For the corresponding six months a year ago, the company lost $4.3 million, or $1.43 a share, on sales of $24.7 million.
