Not impressed: Despite fifth-ranked Esperanza’s 20-6 victory over Lawndale Leuzinger, Aztec Coach Gary Meek was not overly impressed with his team’s performance.

“I thought we would play a heck of a lot better than that,” Meek said. “We didn’t block well and we kept hurting ourselves.”

The Aztecs’ offense sputtered several times and they were penalized seven times for 55 yards. Meek said Esperanza, coming off two big victories over Mater Dei and Capistrano Valley, would have to play much better if it hopes to beat Long Beach Poly next week.
