A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the past week.

CITY COUNCIL

* WESTWOOD CELEBRATION: Approved a request to temporarily close several streets in Westwood Village from 6 a.m. Oct. 23 to 6 p.m. Oct. 24 for the Westwood Celebration and Art Show, sponsored by the Westwood Village Merchants Assn. Nearly $14,000 in permits, fees and overtime salary will be absorbed by the city.

* FAMILY FUN FAIR: Approved the temporary closure of Yucca Street between Gower Street and LaBaig Avenue from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 for the Fall Family Fun Fair, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. City permit fees amounting to $3,028 will be waived.

* HOLLYWOOD BEAUTIFICATION: Approved a proposal extending and increasing the contract of the Hollywood Beautification Team, a nonprofit organization that does beautification projects in the Hollywood area, including graffiti and litter removal. The new contract will run through June, 1994, and increases from $93,500 to $143,500.

* MOVIE FEES: Approved a proposal accepting $20,400 as overtime salary payment from Casual Pictures Inc. for Department of Transportation employees who worked on a movie set in the Hollywood area. The employees replaced modern traffic control signals with the 1950s vintage.

* APPOINTMENTS: Approved the appointments of Rabbi Laura J. Geller and Cammie Massey to the Human Relations Commission, and Leonor M. Gavina-Valls to the Board of Cultural Heritage Commission. Geller lives in the West Los Angeles area; Massey lives in the Baldwin Hills area and Gavina-Valls resides in Hollywood.

HOW THEY VOTED

How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.

* RESCUE: Approved spending $28,000 to upgrade the City Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Program, which seeks to save people who fall into flood channels. An equipment manufacturer will lend the department six jet-powered personal water craft units to use in the program. PASSED: 12-0.

VOTING YES: John Ferraro, Ruth Galanter, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Zev Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Marvin Braude, Jackie Goldberg and Nate Holden.

* WATER: Approved a proposal allowing limited recreational fishing and establishing rules to protect the water in the Haiwee Reservoir, which is an open reservoir for the Eastern Sierra water supply coming to Los Angeles by covered aqueduct. The reservoir is about 28 miles south of Lone Pine. PASSED: 12-0.

ABSENT: Braude, Goldberg and Holden.
