SIMI VALLEY : Corriganville Park 2nd Entrance Studied

A proposal to add a second entrance to the proposed Corriganville Park in Simi Valley must undergo more study concerning how it will affect park operations and a future housing development nearby, the Simi Valley City Council has decided.

Council members asked for the review Monday after considering an objection to the Planning Commission’s approval of a permit to construct the 204-acre park, the former site of the Corriganville movie ranch. The park is situated at the east end of Smith Road, where the main entrance is planned.

Council members Bill Davis and Barbara Williamson appealed the commission’s decision to approve a single public entrance. They requested that a second entrance be opened at Sandalwood Drive during special events to decrease the number of cars using Smith Road.

But council members expressed concern Monday about how a second entrance on Sandalwood would affect residents in the Hopetown housing development that Griffin Homes Partnership plans to build on either side of Sandalwood.

Mayor Greg Stratton also said the park’s planners should be consulted about how the proposed second entrance might affect the collection of entry fees for special events.

After the city staff members review these issues, the second entrance proposal will be returned to the council, Stratton said.
