SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Eric Escobedo rushed for 147 yards on 14 carries, caught four passes for 114 yards and scored four touchdowns as Huntington Beach rolled to a 58-14 Sunset League victory over Santa Ana Friday night.

Escobedo had one of three outstanding performances for the Oilers (5-0, 2-0). Quarterback Levi Schuck completed 10 of 20 passes for 241 yards, and tight end Tony Gonzalez caught four passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns. All three compiled their statistics in the first half, after which Huntington Beach led, 38-0.

Huntington Beach used a no-huddle offense for most of the first quarter, and it worked to perfection. Schuck connected with Escobedo for a 39-yard touchdown pass on the Oilers’ first possession, then hit Gonzalez for 26 yards and a 14-0 lead. Escobedo’s seven-yard scoring run made it 21-0 with 3 minutes 15 seconds left in the first quarter.
