SUNSET LEAGUE : Edison Builds Big Lead; Cruises to 48-20 Victory

Edison dominated the first half of Friday night’s game against Ocean View and let its reserves mop up during the second half of a 48-20 Sunset League victory at Huntington Beach High.

Edison’s starting unit, which took the second half off because of the one-sided score, had five touchdowns and led, 35-0, at halftime. The Chargers (3-2, 1-1 in league) were helped by three Ocean View fumbles, all of which led to touchdowns. Ocean View is 0-5, 0-2.

Jeremy Simmons, a senior running back, scored Edison’s first and fourth touchdowns of the half on runs of 13 and six yards. He had 15 carries for 103 yards in the game.

Todd Belitz added three touchdowns passes, a 19-yarder to Tony Borrelli, a 28-yarder to Andy Linnen and a five-yarder to Timon Jeske to conclude first-half scoring.

Pat Markovsky, Belitz’s second-half replacement, added touchdown passes of 32 yards to Jeske and 14 yards to Dan Emhof.

Ocean View rallied for 20 fourth-quarter points behind Ted Norman. He caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Freddy Brown and threw a 69-yard halfback option pass to David Shaw. He also ran two yards for the final score.
