OP Still OK: Bankruptcy can ruin a company’s good name.
But that hasn’t been the case for Ocean Pacific, the casual wear company that entered Chapter 11 proceedings in 1992. This past summer, the troubled company sold its remaining assets and name to San Francisco-based Berkeley International Corp., which now licenses the OP name.
Did the bankruptcy bother consumers?
Apparently not, according to Women’s Wear Daily’s annual ranking of the nation’s best-known consumer brands. OP finished 35th on the list of 50 overall brands and fifth on an accompanying list of most-recognized sportswear labels.
