IRVINE —
A police officer investigating a suspicious person at an office complex on Venture on Wednesday night was knocked back by the man’s car, police said, adding that the officer fired at the car as it sped away.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for examination of his leg, according to Lt. Vic Thies. Police said the driver of the hatchback was slender, wearing a gray suit.
