SIMI VALLEY : Remains of Missing Man ID’d

Share

A partial skeleton found near the top of Mt. Pinos was positively identified Thursday as that of 41-year-old Roy Scott Williams of Simi Valley, coroner’s officials said.

Williams had been reported missing by his landlord in August after authorities found his pickup truck abandoned in a parking lot in the Mt. Pinos Recreation Area.

The cause of death is still under investigation, said Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate. After examining the bones, coroner’s officials found no obvious signs of trauma.

A hiker walking with his dog found the partial skeleton Tuesday near camping gear and a makeshift fire pit. A search and rescue team was scheduled to return to the mountain today, Wingate said.

Williams, an electrician, was described as a loner by his father, Gordon Williams of Sylmar.

Wingate said the father told authorities it would not have been unusual for his son to go on two- or three-day camping trips alone.
