Two firebombs were thrown early Thursday at the downtown office of the state agency that handles discrimination claims. Police called the incident another in a wave of hate crimes that have hit the city in recent months.

The same white supremacy group that has claimed responsibility for a string of racial attacks since July called television stations Thursday morning, police said.

Only one of the two Molotov cocktails thrown into the state Fair Employment and Housing Department office ignited. The fire was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system and caused little damage, fire officials said.
