Boeing to Close One 747 Line: The company said it plans to shut one of the jumbo jet’s two assembly lines in Everett, Wash., by year’s end as part of its previously announced plan to pare its overall production in the face of slumping orders. Boeing expects to slow 747 output to three planes a month by mid-1994 from a peak of 5.5 in 1989. Northrop Corp., which builds 747 fuselages in Hawthorne, had slowed production in anticipation of Boeing’s cutbacks, and said closure of the 747 line is not expected to further affect Northrop’s operation.
