Birtcher Medical Systems Inc.: The Irvine surgical products manufacturer said it lost $507,000, or 6 cents a share, in its first quarter, compared with a profit of $2 million, or 22 cents a share, for the same period a year ago. Last year’s results include an extraordinary gain of $2.5 million from a one-time license fee payment. Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 declined nearly 18%, to $10.1 million from $12.3 million.
