Convict Lunker Fails in Getaway Attempt
A 14 1/2-pound, 33-inch German brown trout, the largest catch reported in the Eastern Sierra this year, was taken at Convict Lake by Kevin Green of Ontario.
Green was fishing in the creek in the first pool below the outlet at noon last Saturday when the fish hit his red salmon eggs. With a two-pound-test leader, Green struggled for about 20 minutes to get the fish to his net--but then the fish swam away with his net.
Green plunged into the creek, chased the fish down, grabbed it by the gills and dragged it onto the bank.
Convict reported several dozen other catches of three-five pounds.
