Sophomore tailback Dwight McFadden’s broken ankle may not keep him out for the entire season after all.

McFadden, who broke his left ankle in the season opener against North Carolina, could be available if USC plays in a bowl game.

“I think I could be back sooner, but for sure for a bowl game,” he said.

“McKay’s son was supposed to run a hook pattern, but during his route he saw the Notre Dame safety move up, so he broke the pattern, ran downfield and caught a touchdown pass.

“I was standing next to McKay on the sideline, and during the play he said, ‘You stupid little son of a. . . . Oh, my God. . . . Oh, what a nice catch!’ ”
