You think high schools are crowded now? By the year 2009, California is projected to have a graduating senior class 81% larger than it did last year. A study by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education in Boulder, Colo., used current school enrollment and birth statistics as well as migration trends to project the new figure. There were 267,960 graduates in the state’s class of ‘92; the class of 2009 is expected to hit 485,151.
Nationally, a 32% increase in the number of graduates is projected, with the largest increase in Nevada (198%), followed by California and Arizona (77%). The statistics include public and non-public schools.
