Austin E. Smith, 81, the first president of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Assn. and former vice chairman of the Warner-Lambert Co. Smith, a pharmacology specialist, also had served as vice chairman of the Warner-Lambert Co. and became editor of the Journal of the American Medical Assn. in 1949. Ten years later, he was named the first full-time president of the pharmaceutical group. In Fort Myers, Fla., on Oct. 9.
