Volkswagen Announces Layoffs: Volkswagen, Europe’s largest auto maker, said it will cut 8,000 jobs in Germany in the coming year, on top of similar cuts at its troubled Spanish subsidiary. Volkswagen, which said in August its first-half loss this year was $960 million, announced in Barcelona that it will lay off 9,000 of the 23,500 employed there making SEAT cars.
