Vons Considers Tianguis Conversions: The grocery chain said it is considering converting the stores of its Tianguis chain into Expo stores, which typically combine the conventional supermarket format with warehouse-style retailing and a discount pharmacy. Vons Cos.’ nine Los Angeles-area Tianguis stores are conventional supermarkets that also cater to the Latino market with special product offerings. Vons, which is based in Arcadia, has begun to convert its Tianguis store in El Monte into an Expo store. The other Expo locations are in Fontana, Colton and Victorville.
