SIMI VALLEY : City Postpones Hike in Bus Fares

Share

Despite declining bus revenues and slipping ridership on some routes, the Simi Valley City Council on Monday voted unanimously to postpone a proposed fare hike at least until April.

Instead, the council decided to try to increase bus ridership--and thus revenue--by offering discount passes and reducing fares during hours with few riders.

“This is the not the right time to be hitting people with higher fares,” Councilwoman Judy Mikels said. The council directed staff to work out the specifics and return to the council for final approval.

Simi Valley Transit fares were last increased in 1989, from 50 cents to 75 cents.
