Glendale : Country Club Project OKd

The Glendale City Council has approved a $3-million expansion and remodeling project at Oakmont Country Club.

City staff told council members that the purpose of the project, scheduled to begin in January, is not to attract more members, but to better accommodate the needs of the club’s 730 members.

The plan approved Tuesday calls for demolition of the existing snack bar and relocation of other utilities equipment. A 9,437-square-foot structure would then be built as an extension to the more than 32,000-square-foot clubhouse, 3100 Country Club Drive. Club officials hope to expand the clubhouse’s foyer and lobby area, the dining room, grill, living room and lounge, the women’s locker room and card room, the kitchen coolers and storage areas, according to a staff report.

The remodeling would involve the men’s locker room and bathroom, the porch entrance and a new deck area behind the clubhouse. Pine trees would be replaced by cedar or redwood trees and 11 new parking spaces would be added.

John W. Hilts, a club member and nearby resident, appeared before the council Tuesday and spoke in favor of the project, saying neighboring residents will be informed of construction plans.

“We will do the best we can to notify them in advance,” Hilts said. “We want to be a good neighbor.”
