* STREET NAME CHANGE: Approved eventually changing the name of Sentous Street between 11th Street and Pico Boulevard to Cherry Street, which is the name of an adjacent street. The general manager of the Los Angeles Convention Center Department requested the change, saying it will make it easier for the public to find the center’s expanded facilities. Passed: 14-0. Voting yes: Richard Alatorre, Mike Hernandez, Jackie Goldberg, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Rudy Svorinich Jr. and Rita Walters. Absent: Nate Holden.

* DEMOLITION BLOCKED AGAIN: Approved a proposal blocking, for an additional 180 days, demolition of the Sheraton Townhouse Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard. The current owner, a Japanese company, wants to level the 13-story neoclassical building. In April, the council declared the hotel a landmark, which delayed the demolition until Oct. 31. Passed: 14-0. Voting yes: Alatorre, Hernandez, Goldberg, Holden, Ridley-Thomas, Svorinich and Walters.

* FEES WAIVED FOR MUSIC AWARDS: Approved waiving $28,212 in city fees and overtime costs for traffic officers for the 21st American Music Awards on Feb. 7 at the Shrine Auditorium. The event is sponsored by Dick Clark Productions Inc. Passed: 10-3. Voting yes: Hernandez, Goldberg, Holden and Ridley-Thomas, Svorinich and Walters. Absent: Alatorre.
