Temple City : Apartments May Be Razed
A 22,000-square-foot Pep Boys auto parts store and repair center may soon be built where an apartment building stands at 8936 E. Broadway.
Planning commissioners last week unanimously approved a plan to replace the 13 apartment units, which do not conform to city building standards, with the auto parts store and 11 car repair bays. Commissioner Donald Griffith was absent.
City Council members, sitting as the Community Redevelopment Agency board, will consider whether to give final approval to the project in November.
The property is owned by Lou Smaldino, who also owns a liquor store east of the planned building. The site would also provide 219 parking spaces for the Liquor Mart, a Sizzler Restaurant and several small retailers in the area. Parking would be accessible from both Rosemead Boulevard and Broadway.
