REAL ESTATE : Building Trade Group Compiles List for Fire Victims Wanting to Rebuild

In the aftermath of fires that consumed at least 366 local homes, Orange County’s Building Industry Assn. is preparing a list of rebuilding companies, including local architects, plumbers, plasters, roofers, electricians and builders.

The referral list is designed to help people who want to rebuild but are not sure who to call.

“What we’ve heard from other communities is that fly-by-night building companies may come in and take advantage of this situation,” said Christine Diemer, executive director for the Building Industry Assn. in Irvine. “I would hate to see these homeowners not know where to turn and not get good advice.”

Diemer said the local BIA will be putting together a referral list of about 400 companies this week and working with county and city officials to distribute the names. Anyone interested in receiving a copy can call (714) 553-9500.
