Doctors in the Baltic nation of Latvia have warned of a possible plague epidemic after vandals robbed the grave of an army officer who died of the disease in the last century, Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency said.

Doctors in the Latvian capital of Riga feared that “the virus of the lethal disease might have been exhumed” with the remains of Anton Tsivinsky, who was buried near a fortress next to other military victims of the disease.
