Tool and die company Wainwright Industries Inc., battling a decline in the defense industry, is applying its manufacturing and design know-how to a pressing social question: How to take along condoms discreetly and safely?

Wainwright’s answer: the compact Protecto Pager, designed to look exactly like a pager.

Available at CondomMania, a national chain of condom boutiques, the Protecto Pager clips to the belt, just like a real pager, and flips open to reveal several wrapped condoms.

“The Protecto Pager is our first product aimed at the general consumer,” President Nelson Wainwright said.
