World IN BRIEF : HONG KONG : Passengers Safe After Jet Crashes in Harbor

A jumbo jet of Taiwan’s China Airlines plunged into Hong Kong harbor after apparently overshooting the runway, and passengers could be seen scrambling down emergency chutes into life rafts. Officials and eyewitnesses said the Boeing 747, Flight CAL605, carrying 250 to 300 people, crashed while flying in from Taipei. Television reports said one to three people were hurt. At the time of the crash, gusty winds and rain were lashing the airport and visibility was poor.
