Gracious Berle Deserves an Apology

Share

Several years ago, my son, now a UC San Diego student, and I accompanied my husband on a business trip to Vancouver, B.C.

While my husband attended meetings, I decided to take our son to the nearby park and art gallery.

I had noticed from the hotel’s schedule that Milton Berle had been the featured entertainer for a private gathering the previous evening.

As we started down the hallway of the lobby, a gentleman hurriedly approached from the opposite direction, and we all reached the door simultaneously. It was Milton Berle!

Two limousines awaited outside, and someone beckoned to him to hurry; they were due at the airport. Although we were glad to step aside, Mr. Berle graciously opened the door for us, and I introduced him to our son. He shook hands with him, exchanged pleasantries, waited for us to pass through the door, and then made his way to the waiting limousine.

The point is: He could easily have brushed by us, especially since he was being urged to depart. His sense of common courtesy prevented that.

Ru (Rude) Paul, pay attention: There is no excuse for very bad manners. You should apologize publicly for your inexcusable behavior on the MTV Video Music Awards. Uncle Miltie will always be in fashion, as will courteous social behavior. Milton Berle, thanks for 45 years of laughs (without a dirty word)!
