More than 1,700 trees along major Simi Valley streets may soon be trimmed if the Simi Valley City Council approves a tree maintenance contract Monday.

In a staff report to the council, Public Works Director Ron Coons recommended Davey Tree Surgery of Livermore for the annual job.

The company, which has performed similar tasks for the city, submitted the lowest of three bids--$74,000.

The next bid was nearly $100,000 higher. “The low bid for this project is a reflection of the current general economy and is considered a valid bid,” Coons said.
