DOWNTOWN : Tony-Winning ‘Offshore’ Scheduled
- Share via
An award-winning musical play that combines the unlikely elements of Japanese Kabuki theater, Beijing opera and the North American Free Trade Agreement comes to the Los Angeles Theatre Center on Friday and Saturday.
“Offshore,” the Tony Award-winning show, has an anti-free-trade message: that only a privileged few benefit from “global integration,” while the larger working class loses.
The performance group’s name--the San Francisco Mime Troupe--is misleading because the show is filled with song, dance and dialogue based on traditional Asian styles, including the stiff movements of Kabuki.
The Los Angeles performances, which begin at 8 both nights, will benefit the Labor / Community Strategy Center in Koreatown. A panel discussion will follow each performance.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased ahead of time by calling the Labor / Community Strategy Center at (213) 387-2800 or at the theater, 514 S. Spring St.
