Fiat Continues to Cut Work Force: Italy’s auto giant said it will temporarily lay off between 12,600 and 42,600 workers in December to cut back production by 41,700 cars. The Turin group, which controls about 45% of the domestic market with its brands Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, has been idling workers every month since 1992 following one of the worst postwar crises faced by the European auto industry.
