Court Overturns Patent Judgment Against AT&T;: A federal appeals court in New York overturned the $34.6-million jury verdict against AT&T; for patent infringement. The company in February, 1992, was found guilty of taking ideas that Collins Licensing of Dallas had patented in 1976 to design digital phone switches. But in a ruling made last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals said the jury’s findings were “clearly and unquestionably not supported by substantial evidence.” The switches at the center of the case are sold chiefly to the nation’s seven regional telephone companies.
