Consumers Show More Pessimism: The University of Michigan’s preliminary consumer sentiment index for November reportedly fell to 82 from 82.7 in October. The early-November reading is still higher than September’s, which was 77.9. A post-election high of 91 was set in December. The index is based on 100, set in 1966. A drop in the monthly reading shows increased consumer pessimism about the economy. The university also reported that its early-November index of consumer expectations fell to 71.7 from the October reading of 72.5.
