Vietnamese Zen Master’s Quest for Peace

Share

Regarding your story about Thich Nhat Hanh (“On a Quiet Path, Seeking Solace in the Here and Now,” Oct. 16):

Long live the faith of a man in his never-ending journey for peace. Whatever threat a pursuit for spirituality poses toward the government of a country, the teachings of Buddhist Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh provide the people of Vietnam an opportunity to fill a void. As a result of the venerable’s being banished by the governments of Vietnam since 1966, the quest for inner peace within a country becomes a path lost within itself. As long as Thich Nhat Hanh remains exiled from his country, it is beyond the essence of “emptiness” for the government and people of Vietnam to reside within a tragic state.
