OXNARD : Convent’s Prayers May Have Been Heard

Share

The Sister Servants of Mary Convent near Oxnard may soon be buffered from the noise of traffic on Victoria Avenue and trucking operations at Bailard Landfill if county supervisors approve a plan to build a $200,000 sound wall.

Arthur E. Goulet, county public works director, said environmental studies on the widening of Victoria Avenue and on operations at the landfill showed that future noise levels from traffic would be unacceptable at the convent.

To reduce the noise, the county agreed to build the sound wall, Goulet said. The convent is near the intersection of Gonzales Road and Victoria Avenue.

The supervisors are scheduled to vote Tuesday on the recommendation.

The Ventura Regional Sanitation District will split the construction costs of the sound wall with the county if Bailard Landfill is allowed to continue operating past its scheduled closing date in December.
