Boxer Recommends San Diego Judge for Federal District Court
U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) announced Friday that she has recommended to President Clinton that he appoint San Diego County Superior Court Judge Judith McConnell to a federal district court judgeship in the Southern District of California, which covers San Diego and Imperial counties.
“Judge McConnell’s tremendous experience as a trial judge and attorney, her professional administrative service and her deep commitment to fairness and equality will make her an extremely well-qualified addition to the federal bench,” Boxer said.
It is considered highly likely that Clinton will follow Boxer’s recommendation.
McConnell, 49, graduated from UC Berkeley in 1966 and its Boalt Hall School of Law in 1969. For the next seven years, she was an attorney with the California Department of Transportation. Then, after spending one year in private practice, McConnell was appointed to a Municipal Court judgeship in 1977 by Gov. Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr.
Brown elevated McConnell to the Superior Court bench in 1980.
