GARDEN GROVE : Club to Support Education Project

Share

The Girls Club has received a $7,000 grant to support an upcoming “Learning as a Family” project of the Clinton Kids Club at Clinton Elementary School.

The project will serve the poor and immigrant families of the Buena Clinton neighborhood and is designed to teach parents that their children’s future in society can be secured through education. The grant was made by the PacifiCare Foundation. The project will begin in January.

The Clinton Kids Club already runs an after-school program at the school for 100 children who attend Clinton, Mendenhall TMR, Dwight D. Eisenhower or Riverdale elementary schools. The activities emphasize learning enrichment, including homework assistance, reading, arts and crafts, computer education and recreation activities that foster self-esteem.

The Clinton Kids Club also offers annual programs for the children’s families, which include a warm clothes distribution project and a holiday party, as well as instruction in parenting, language and literacy skills.

In January, when the Learning as a Family project begins, the Clinton Kids Club will relocate to two new buildings on the grounds at the Clinton school. The buildings were bought with a state grant.
