Embankment Crash Kills Santa Ana Man

A 31-year-old man died early Tuesday when he apparently lost control of his car and crashed down an embankment off MacArthur Boulevard, police said.

The victim, who was identified as Medardo Miranda of Santa Ana, was traveling north on MacArthur about 100 m.p.h. when his car went over an embankment just south of Ford Road, Police Sgt. Andy Gonis said.

Miranda, who was alone in the car, was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the car on impact, Gonis said. His body was found about 40 feet from the car.

Gonis said the time of the accident is not clear. Police received a call about 4 a.m., reporting an accident in the area, but officers were unable to find any wreckage.

Then, about 7:30 a.m., a resident reported seeing the wrecked car from his window.

“The vehicle was amid some brush and well off of the roadway,” Gonis said. “The resident guided us to the wreckage.”

Traffic investigators at the scene ran into additional problems when two minor accidents occurred at the same intersection within 15 minutes of each other. One of the accidents involved minor injuries.

“It was a coincidence and a very bad morning for that area,” Gonis said.
