Carl’s Jr., looking to focus public attention away from its boardroom battles and back to its burgers, is shopping for an ad agency.

The Anaheim-based fast-food company is reportedly prepared to spend $30 million annually.

Handling the account for now is the Los Angeles office of Grey Advertising. Grey was chosen last month to work with Carl’s Jr. until year’s end. The business had been with Goodby, Berlin & Silverstein in San Francisco.

Goodby, Berlin created a series of cartoons for Carl’s Jr. In them, the company’s logo, Happy Star, argued with the chain’s recently ousted chairman--founder Carl N. Karcher--about how to run the business.

Grey is among nine agencies--none based in Orange County--going after the account.
