The Board of Education has appointed acting schools police chief Jarado Blue as the permanent head of law enforcement for the Pasadena Unified School District.

In making the announcement at a school board meeting last week, the Rev. George Van Alstine president of the board, said Blue had shined as acting chief.

“We had the chance to see him operate in a couple of crisis situations. We had a really good experience with him,” he said.

Blue prepared security contingency plans for the verdict in the Rodney G. King civil rights trial in April and coordinated police response to the recent Altadena fire.

Blue, 40, was an officer with the Pasadena Police Department for 13 years, leaving in 1983 to run his own car detailing business and act as a security consultant for Super Shuttle International. He returned to law enforcement in 1992 as an officer for the school district.

Married and the father of two children, he was raised in Pasadena and attended Washington Elementary and Middle School, Pasadena High School and Pasadena City College. Blue also attended Cal State Los Angeles.

“I support community policing and will advocate more officer involvement with the people we serve,” Blue said.
