Santa Monica : 2 Convicted in 1991 Crime Spree
A Santa Monica jury on Monday found two young men guilty of murder, attempted murder and seven counts of robbery in connection with a crime spree two years ago in which a convenience store clerk and one of the men’s companions were killed.
The case involved a crew of five teen-age friends who on Dec. 7, 1991, robbed at gunpoint a succession of convenience stores and restaurants in Lawndale, Venice, Culver City, Marina del Rey and Santa Monica.
At the last stop, a Santa Monica 7-Eleven store, clerk Anthony Ongamasing was shot and killed by Ray Dailey, 20, and Albert Alexander, 18. Their accomplice, Anthony Carver, was shot and killed by a police officer called to the scene by Ongamasing before he died.
Dailey and Alexander will be sentenced early next year. Dailey faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Alexander, who was 16 when he committed the crimes, faces a minimum sentence of 28 years but could be sent to prison for life.
