Share

Ventura police are looking for victims of a con artist suspected of swindling elderly people by going door-to-door soliciting money for work that he never completed.

Gary Gayland Tully, 39, has been arrested in connection with scams against several 75- to 85-year-old victims, police said. Investigators hope to find other victims to further the case against Tully, police said.

A resident called police on Wednesday to report a suspicious man going door-to-door in the mid-town area. Investigators have since found several elderly homeowners who lost from $30 to $450 to Tully, police said.

Tully used guile and charm to win the trust of his victims, police said. Once a homeowner agreed to pay for a job, Tully would ask for money up front to buy equipment or to pay for landfill fees, police said.

Tully is a white male, 6-foot-5, weighs 255 pounds and has light red hair and blue eyes. People who believe they may have been victimized by him should contact Officer Teresa Thurston at 339-4438.
