LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Applicants Sought for County Grand Jury

Share

The Los Angeles Superior Court is accepting applications for service on the 1994-1995 Grand Jury, a citizen watchdog body that investigates county government and is empowered to bring criminal indictments.

Recently, defense attorneys have challenged grand jury indictments on the grounds that the panels are predominantly white. Officials say they are making efforts to recruit more minorities. “The court strives to have the grand jury reflect the ethnic diversity of Los Angeles County,” Assistant Presiding Judge Gary Klausner said.

Members of the 23-member panel serve four to five days a week and earn $25 a day. Those interested in serving should request an application from the county Juror Services Division at (213) 974-5333. The deadline is Dec. 3.
