Art Contest Draws on Talent

Share

The East/Northeast Networking Roundtable, a group of social service and human resources organizations, is sponsoring an art contest for 9- to 15-year-olds to help promote area social service agencies.

The group is putting together a resource directory of local services for in-home use. The winning art entry will be displayed on the cover.

“We thought it would be great for the front cover to be something created by someone in the community,” said Alma Cervantes, community coordinator for the Los Angeles Alliance for a Drug Free Community.

The theme for the guide and the contest is: “When our families need help, who can we call?”

Cervantes said that the group wants to include as many services as possible and is seeking a grant to increase the number of directories it prints to 10,000.

“It can be anything from a homeless shelter to an alcohol-drug recovery program,” she said. “Each agency is asked in the form to give some information regarding the specifics of their services.”

The art entries should be 6 by 8 1/2 inches. The deadline is Dec. 8.

Information: Cervantes at (213) 625-7557 or Margie Navarette at (213) 260-3147.
